TALI - On The Verge Of Another Historic Milestone

Message from TALI President Kelly E. Riddle:
We are on the verge of another historic milestone for the Texas Association of Licensed Investigators. Just a few short days from now we will hold TALI's 40th Anniversary convention in Fort Worth. There have been large hurdles over the decades that have been overcome to position TALI as the premier association in the PI profession. There is excitement in the air as we get closer that has not gone unnoticed by our vendors. As of last week, our vendor room is completely full. We have no more room for vendors and we still have prospective advertisers calling, wanting to be a part of this special event. Not only is our block of rooms at the Omni completely sold out--the entire hotel is sold out. There are still rooms available nearby but they are going fast as well. We are getting convention registrations in every day as far away as Australia, California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and other areas outside of Texas. This is a prime opportunity to network with PI's. You can't be everywhere all the time and I can tell you from past experience that good business relationships are cemented by meeting your fellow PI face-to-face.
Our keynote speaker has an amazing story of not only surviving corruption by trusted public officials but triumphing through the ordeal. We have excellent seminars for the most experienced PI as well as those just entering our profession. We will be welcoming back former Presidents that helped forge the way for TALI. We have worked out special parking rates at the hotel of $12 per day and $20 for overnight stays. There is also a city run parking lot right next door to the Omni. Those staying at nearby hotels can utilize the Trolley that picks up every 15 minutes and goes in and around Sundance Square. It will drop you off right in front of the Omni Starbucks.
The PI Museum on Wheels is anticipating making the trek across country and the RV will be parked near the front entrance, welcoming everyone and enticing hotel guests. While on the subject, those who would like to support this non-profit effort to spread positive exposure for our profession may do so by financially supporting them at www.pimuseum.org .

Jana's Kids Foundation awards scholarships to Native Youth to help them to achieve their dreams.

Jana's Kids Foundation offers scholarships to Native American youth for academic, artistic, and athletic achievement as part of the Foundations educational initiative. The Foundation has to date been almost completely self funded by it's founder, music artist Jana Mashonee. Jana's goal is to award full scholarships to deserving Native American youth.

Jana is very dedicated to helping Native youth in any way she can. Jana gives back to her Native community by helping others believe in themselves and their ability to achieve their goals. In her travels around the country, Jana has met with and listened to thousands of Native youth. Their strong support is what is making Jana's special work so successful.

Jana addresses the issues of cultural pride and identity, motivation and ambition, education, alcohol, tobacco and drug awareness, and gang association. She proactively involves her audiences in this extraordinary interactive presentation. Music, lecture, questions, answers, and demonstrations are the main components of this educational, entertaining, and motivational program.

It is Jana's mission to help provide our youth the resources to achieve their dreams. One thousand dollars provides one scholarship award to one child for one school year.

Jana's Kids is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that benefits Native American Youth. All contributions are tax-deductible.

It only happens maybe a few times in a person’s lifetime but every once in a while, a power from above brings two people together with an instant bonding. That happened to me this last year when I first had the opportunity to speak with a man they call SG (for short) by the name of Stephan Galfas. Stephan Galfas is CEO of International Talent Organization, Inc. and Miss Molly Records which is distributed by SONY RED / BDG. I had called Miss Molly Records to order more Jana Mashonee CDs and Galfas just happened to answer the phone that day. When I got off the phone, I felt like I had made one of those instant great friends you only run across just a few times in an entire lifetime. To tell you the truth, at the time; I wasn’t sure who he was.

Come to find out, Mr. Galfas is a highly talented producer, composer, songwriter, musician, director and who knows what else. He has worked with and managed many mega stars in the entertainment industry including Cher, The Allman Brothers Band, Meat Loaf, Stryper,Saxon, Dr. Sin, Kool and the Gang, Savatage, Intergalactic Touring Band, ELO Part II, Pezband, Good Rats and of course, Jana Mashonee. Galfas’s organization and production company manages many entertainment groups and artists including GRAMMY nominee and 8 time Native American Music Award (NAMMY) winner Jana Mashonee.. This year, he co-authored a book titled American Indian Story –The Adventures Of Sha’kona with Ms. Mashonee. When you start looking at all the things he does, you just wonder where in the world he finds the time to get it all done.

He has come to be known as the man in the magic, the person quietly behind the rising international star Jana Mashonee. I would go as far as to call him Elvis on the Backend. Although Stephan often plays gigs with Jana on guitar, he is always in the background and always wanting the talent of Jana to shine. The two have been at it now for over ten years. They no doubt have gotten tired of the behind the scenes shenanigans that go on almost every day in the music business. It’s a tuff business to be in, especially with all the mega shifts and changes going on with music. You get lied to, get used, are given promises that never happen and it seems like everybody and their uncle is trying to take a piece of you for their own self interest. Stephan never told me this directly but I think he along with Jana Mashonee herself got sort of fed up with the dinosaurs in the music and entertainment industry and were determined to forge ahead in a world that was changing and changing fast. Jana’s rising stardom got caught in this massive mega shift between the analog age and the digital age in which the overwhelming majority of music is now being marketed and delivered over the internet. Jana is already known as the top recording artist in the Native American music market but this nitch market is small compared to the music market in general and it’s difficult to say the least to do the type of things that this talented team has a vision to do in such a limited market place.

Along with Jana Mashonee, Stephan helped create their own record label, Miss Molly Records, and helped develop a strategy to bring forth the super talent of Jana from the ground up. Using the Internet’s social media plateforms such as Facebook, Twitter, My Space And Reverbnation - The Jana Mashonee Music Magic focuses on personal contact with fans and digital downloads through the Jana Mashonee web site. The team are like pioneers in the music business forging ahead where no artist has gone before. They are building a following the old fashioned way, one fan at a time. The one fan at a time ground swell seems to be turning into an earthquake. Aside from all of these accomplishments, Stephan is the man in the magic when it comes to all of Jana Mashonee’s CD’s as he is the one that can mix them and produce them into their final magical form. The only way to describe that is musical talent on a genius level. I know him! He’s known to sort of disappear for days and weeks at a time. I know what he is going through and understand. He mixes music and edits videos just like that fan base, one unit at a time. The music mixing is done one note at a time , the videos come to completion one frame at a time and the book American Indian Story was word crafted one word at a time. All of it involves many takes. It you talk to the fans of Jana Mashonee’s music, you find a common thread that runs though the crowd. They speak of her music in terms that goes beyond mere mortals and there is something that raises up within a persons soul. It’s an understatement to say that in the last decade or so music and music videos have had a sort of intellectual laziness to them and I think that goes along with the music and movie making business in general these days. With little exception, it seems that there has been very little innovation and everything seems to be based on an over the top gimmick. While there are some very talented people in the field, it seems to be overwhelmingly filled with an over crowded field of mediocrocy with yet another gimmick. The Jana Mashonee music magic is a whole lot different. It mixes raw talent with both truth and passion which shines through to the final product. That is quite evident when you listen to the fans and followers who talk about her music and her videos like no one has talked about anybody else for a very long time. It will be quite evident when you listen to the music yourself and even more so when see a performance in person.

The raw talent and shear perfection that shines through in this team’s end product and shows is only half the stuff that their magic is made of. You can tell it’s not just about making money. A few years ago Ms. Mashonee decided that she wanted to do a Christmas CD. She could of easily spent a few days in a recording studio and quickly produced another hit CD with her amazing voice. But oh no not Jana! I mean artists who love what they do tend to give an extra mile. Jana decided she wanted to do a Christmas CD with ten traditional Christmas songs on it all in different Native American languages. It was a great idea but Jana Mashonee only knew the Lumbee language which is the American Indian Tribe she is from. She had to learn the other nine. Instead of a few days in the recording studio to walk out with a Christmas CD this CD took over a year to produce. During that time, Jana worked with Elders from each Tribe to learn the words to the songs in their language. After production, Galfas had to pour over the mixing of the final product going over every piece of the tracks note by note. The end result is one of the most amazing Christmas CDs that has ever been produced. When the vocals of Jana Mashonee fill the air on this CD you will not understand one word of the songs she sings in ten different Native languages with your brain but your heart and your soul understands all of it! When it comes to native country, Victor Crisostomo Gomez has developed an international following of his artwork of Native Inca Americans with a contemporary blend. His work brings to life the colors and the passions of an ancient peoples in a way on one else has ever been above to capture.

Fine art painter Victor Crisostomo is a contemporary artist from Lima, Peru, and features the people and cultures of his native country in his vibrant and captivating portraits. These compelling images blend tradition with a contemporary edge. The dichotomy of past and present would normally be difficult and prohibitively complex, however, Victor, a Native American of Inca Qechua heritage, effortlessly bridges the two extremes while traveling the jungles of South America for his research and inspiration.

Completely self-taught, Victor’s approach to art is to portray emotion through intense color and to render the men, women and children in his portraits with a soft, almost dream-like quality. The result is that each painting becomes a beautiful exploration into symbolism, cultural heritage and identity, drawing on a sense of harmony that he tries to instill in each canvas. Victor’s work has been likened to a treasure chest full of mysteries and surprises. Each gem will be revealed the longer you look.

Ultimately, Victor seeks to combine the strength and richness of the heritage of the Native Indians of Peru with the rewards and challenges of the urban world. The saying goes that behind every successful man is a good woman and that is an understatement when it comes to Barbara Thomas, the wife of Ralph Thomas. Ralph calls her the love of his life and the two are almost inseparable. Barbara is very social but when it comes to the businesses
that the Thomas’s have, she likes to stay in the background. She doesn’t do much press but many members of The National Association Of Investigative Specialists calls her the first lady of private investigation. We had a chance to catch up with her and her busy life for a little interview and we are happy to present it to ArtChix Magazine readers.

Barbara is almost always by Ralph Thomas’s side. They can hardly stand to be apart from each other. He rarely makes any decision without her input. Ralph tends to be way too trusting of people only seeing their good side. Barbara is his Nancy Reagan and will protect him from people who tend to have hidden agendas and other motives. Barbara likes to spend time with her grand kids Colton and Kinsey. She is deeply religious and goes to church every Sunday with her mom.

Here are some questions we asked Barbara and some surprising answers.

You are involved in the family business of SpyTeK Imports, The Spy Exchange And Security Center, The National Association Of Investigative Specialists and Tribal Impressions, a Native American store in Georgetown Texas. Could you tell us a little about you involvement in these?

I help Ralph. He tends to be a very driven person in whatever it is he is doing and never seems to find a middle ground with things. I sometimes can temper him in such matters. I used to run online NAIS egroups which is massive with over 100,000 people but I have sort of backed away from that and let my son Cody and the SpyTeK staff keep up with that. We have an office at the house with computers in it and I set and work right next to Ralph. I am the special projects manager for the National Association Of Investigative Specialists and I’m always working on something for NAIS.

Barbara what are your favorite books?

I love history and the south. My all time great book is Gone With The Wind. I recently read a great book by Kathryn Stockett titled The Help which is about black women in the south during the civil war. Jana Mashonee’s new book American Indian Story is a book that we just obtained and I plan on reading it. I’m sure Jana’s book will become one of my all time favorites.

Who are your favorite TV and movie stars?

I like Sandra Bullock and Harrison Ford.

Barbara who is your favorite entertainer?

It has got to be Jana Mashonee. She can sing from the heart like no one else I know of. Jana has become very special to both Ralph and myself since we are both very sensitive to Native Americans and Native American culture. We think Jana is a raising star that is going right to the top. What is your favorite TV shows?

Ralph and I both liked Boston Legal but you know they canceled it. I really don’t think that the TV industry knows much about what they are doing these days when you see things like that. Today, I like Hot In Cleveland and I have Ralph watching it with me.

What do you like to do in your spare time Barbara?

I like to spend as much time as I can with my grad kids of course. They each spend the night at least once a week. I like animals and enjoy horseback riding.

Who is your favorite spy?

Ralph Thomas of course and I think he is the best looking one! There is this photo of him with the Spy Chics that seems to have become popular for some reason and some people get the wrong idea about what it is projecting. Blakeley and Stephanie who are models for our business are personal family friends. Like all of our personal friends, we both love them. Ralph and I both love young people who start their own businesses and both of these girls have done that.

When ArtChix Magazine chose its ‘Person of the Year for 2009, President Barack Obama was the clear favorite. For reasons that were anything but political, we chose President Obama for meeting the criteria we set in a profound way.

This year our readers helped us narrow down the list like they did last year. But this year it wasn’t a politician or a Hollywood member of the glitterati that came out ahead.

Our 2010 ArtChix Magazine ‘Person of the Year’ beat out two big names on our list. George Clooney and Angelina Jolie represented Hollywood and despite their contributions in other areas, our readers wanted what they called ‘a real American’ who was ‘a real influence’. It was funny that our readers looked outside of Hollywood or Washington to find those qualities (laughing) and, as they say, the rest is history.

Last year, ArtChix Magazine chose female vocalist and music sensation Crystal Sunshine as our ‘ARTIST OF THE YEAR’. This year, we have opted to choose another female vocalist who has filled the hearts and ears of her listeners with what has been described as “a spiritual experience in music”.

In making our choice, we choose from among the most promising, most unique artists. We had considered choosing someone from the genre of film or visual art this year and more than 30 candidates were vetted. Their talents are just amazing.

But then we came to know Jana Mashonee, who has graced the cover of ArtChix Magazine before and has been a popular figure among our readers.
Our ArtChix Magazine ‘ARTIST OF THE YEAR’ for 2010 is Jana Mashonee.

Jana Mashonee is a singer, songwriter and actress. She is Lumbee and Tuscarora, originally from Robeson County, North Carolina, currently residing near New York City, in Greenwich, CT. She is currently releasing her music through Miss Molly Records.

Jana was discovered by producer/songwriter, Rodney Shelton, when Jana was singing funk in her “weekend band” Peace ‘N’ Love near Charlotte, NC. Shelton recorded a demo of “What I Am To You” and presented it to Curb Records’ Mike Curb who immediately signed Jana to his label.

Jana has described herself as an “Urban Indian”:
“Being an Urban Indian, is to walk in both worlds but not compromise my cultural identity. I cannot ignore who I am and where I came from. I am proud that I can maintain my traditional customs while living in today’s world.”

Jana is also active motivational speaker for Native American youth, supporting such organizations as U.N.I.T.Y. (United Native Indian Tribal Youth), and her own motivational program “Jana’s Kids”. Jana also designs jewelry in her lines Urban Indian and Indian Spirit, with the profits going directly to her motivational program, “Jana’s Kids.”

GCIS CYBER-SECURITY UPDATE: GCIS sources have informed us that critical U.S. infrastructure utility companies are being warned to keep an eye on cyber assets in case NK cyber command launches attacks.

Foreign intelligence sources claimed that similar attacks in early July 2010 against the U.S., S. Korea, and 14 other countries were traced to the activity of North Korean Military Cyber Warfare Units.

According to defensetech.org, S. Korean intelligence has obtained documents ordering North Korean army units to start the cyber attack.

Early reports described the attacks as [Distributed] Denial of Service [a.k.a.”DDoS”], which essentially floods websites with internet traffic so that they are effectively taken offline. They can be relatively easy and inexpensive, using widely available hacking programs, and can be serious threats if hackers infect and tie thousands of computers together into botnets - a huge number of “zombie computers” gathered together and directed to all go to U.S. government Web sites at the exact same time. This kind of attack shuts down less secure sites due to their inability to handle the amount of traffic.

According to a report by Fox News, “these attacks were able to shut down some Web sites, but they were never able to penetrate the security systems surrounding them. By their very nature, DDoS attacks do not compromise security or steal or damage information — they simply knock Web sites offline and tie up valuable resources and manpower.”

James Lewis, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, claims that the disparity in vulnerabilities within government agencies, including the White House, shows that there is a need for coordinated government network defenses.

“It says that they were ready and the other guys weren’t ready,” he claims. “We are disorganized. In the event of an attack, some places aren’t going to be able to defend themselves.”

A large-scale cyber-security simulation, “Cyber Shockwave”, organized in Feb. 2010 by the the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) and utilizing the expertise of former government officials, “provided an unprecedented look at how the government would develop a real-time response to a large-scale cyber crisis affecting much of the nation.” They concluded that the U.S is “unprepared for cyber threats.”

North Korea on Saturday said it would take “strong physical measures” against US sanctions, Pyongyang’s state media reported.

Sailors assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington and Carrier Task Force (CTF) 70 looking at the damage to the South Korea corvette Cheonan at Pyeongtaek naval base. North Korea said it would give a strong physical response to US sanctions, Pyongyang’s state media reported.

NAIS TV hits record numbers 48 hours after launch

AUSTIN, TX - 48 hours out of the gate and a new online television channel targeting the private intelligence, security and investigative industries hit record numbers in its first round.

NAIS TV, the official broadcasting channel of the National Association of Investigative Specialists, launched last week, ahead of its July 4th scheduled launch, increasing its programming slate and its online development at a rapid pace.

NAIS recently announced that it had awarded a communications contract to Griffith Colson Intelligence Service (GCIS), a private intelligence communications agency in Los Angeles and Washington D.C., to design, develop and operate the new online television network.

“We are pleased with the initial results”, said Sara Bauer, press secretary for GCIS, “We went from a four phase testing plan and directly to live streaming within 24 hours of the announcement of the contract. By July 4th, NAIS TV had reached over 13,000 in the viewership numbers and we were all just amazed”.

NAIS Director Ralph Thomas, who is a mover and shaker in the private spy community and a legendary spymaster in his own right, is planning a slate of original programming for the new channel, with some impressive line-ups and faces in the private investigative business.

Thomas and the NAIS partnered earlier this year with GCIS in an effort to utilize new technologies for the industry and, as Bauer states, “NAIS TV was an extension of that partnership”.

AUSTIN, TX (BRAMFORD TIMES EXCLUSIVE) - Imagine for a moment that you tune in to an online television channel and the Secret Files of J. Edgar Hoover are on. After that, sleuth after sleuth from P.I. icon Kelly Riddle to Spy Guy Cody Woods are on the air talking about the intrigue of private intelligence or the latest spy gadgets on the market. Add a little bit Aussie spy diva Tiffany Bond and Sly Fox Brianne Joseph and you have back to back programming for the private investigative and security industry.

That is the vision of Ralph D. Thomas, Director of the National Association of investigative Specialists (NAIS) and legendary spymaster. Under the direction of Thomas, NAIS recently awarded a contract to Griffith Colson Intelligence service (GCIS) to develop and operate a new online television broadcasting channel, called NAIS TV.

Ahead of schedule, NAIS TV is now on the air, running a variety of broadcasts from theSecret Files of J. Edgar Hoover to the interviews and tech news of private sleuths from around the world.

With plans for the introduction of original programming and a slate of spy stars lined up to fill the program schedule, Thomas is clearly embracing a new era on how to do business in the private spy world.

“It is innovative, but it also shows how the new media is influencing all sorts of industries”, said Kayla Cohen, cyber security chief at GCIS, “I see Ralph (Thomas) as a unique visionary because of his influence and his willingness to gamble on new technologies for an age-old industry like spycraft. Can you imagine what Allan Pinkerton or Sherlock Holmes would have done with Internet technology? The vision of Mr. Thomas is clearly shared by our own at GCIS”.

Thomas is considered a networking emperor in his business. He has a reputation of getting into the trenches to build up new comers to the industry and has become a father figure to a new generation of private spies.

The relationship between the NAIS and GCIS is a special one, says Cohen.

“Ralph Thomas treats you like family. It is more than business to him. He cares about legacy and inspiring others”, she said in an email statement to The Bramford Times, “He stands head and shoulders above others in the industry because of that quality. We are really proud to serve the industry by serving NAIS”.

NAIS TV is well on its way to an online presence. Ahead of schedule, program development is moving ahead rapidly and the channel has cleared three levels of a five level testing phase in the matter of 48 hours. The channel is already streaming 24 hours a day, around the clock, non-stop and is adding new programming constantly.

NAIS awards communications contract to private intelligence agency

AUSTIN, TX (The Bramford Times) - The National Association of Investigative Specialists has awarded a three year contract to Griffith Colson Intelligence Service and its Communications Command center to supply, deliver, develop and operate a broadcasting channel exclusively for the NAIS.

The contract was awarded to the GCIS Communications Command center, which now operates a half a dozen online television channels for Griffith Colson Intelligence Service. This will be the first outside channel operated by GCIS for a private firm.

The new channel, christened NAIS TV, will be custom designed for the National Association of Investigative Specialists, and will broadcast NAIS program content 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a live stream. the channel will also have live broadcasting capability, allowing NAIS to go live at any time or to address the NAIS viewers in the event of a national emergency.

In a statement this morning, NAIS Director Ralph Thomas said the following about the new venture between NAIS and Griffith Colson: “GCIS Communications and NAIS has the same vision and that vision is that media and TV are moving to an online format as almost all media is so viewers can view what they want when they want to and we look forward to developing this specialized content channel.”

The contract gives NAIS full control over all programming, said Sara Bauer, Press Secretary for Griffith Colson. GCIS will provide operational and technical support for the channel.

In what has been a whirlwind partnership between NAIS and GCIS has just been taken to the next level. While details of the contract remain sealed, Bauer said the three year contract further strengthens the NAIS-GCIS partnership, and will allow GCIS to also develop security communications applications designed for the NAIS channel, along with expanded network outreach and program content as approved by NAIS. The contract allows for an extension for GCIS to provide continued operations support for the NAIS channel after the contract expires and comes up for renewal in 2013.

Bauer said GCIS and NAIS are planning to unveil the new channel soon after the July 4th holiday.
